Home Energy Scotland Grant

The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan is a Scottish Government scheme that provides funding towards replacing a fossil fuel heating system with a heat pump. It is designed to make the switch to low-carbon heating more affordable for Scottish homeowners.

On top of the grant, eligible homeowners may also be able to access an optional interest-free loan, which can further reduce upfront costs.

The grant is applied for through Home Energy Scotland. As an MCS-certified installer, we can advise on eligibility and carry out the installation to the required standard.

Grant amounts available

Air Source Heat Pump (standard) up to £7,500

Rural / island properties (uplift) up to £9,000

An optional interest-free loan may also be available alongside the grant. Eligibility conditions apply and are confirmed by Home Energy Scotland.

Eligibility Checklist

Owner-occupied property in ScotlandYou must own and live in the property as your primary residence. The scheme is for Scotland only.

Replacing a fossil fuel heating systemGas, oil, or LPG boiler, or electric storage heaters. The heat pump must provide 100% of your heating and hot water.

Energy assessment for your homeA valid EPC or Home Energy Scotland specialist report is required as part of the application.

MCS-certified installerInstallation must be carried out by an MCS-certified contractor. Retrofit Group holds full MCS certification.

Warm Homes Plan

The Warm Homes Plan is the UK Government's upcoming flagship scheme for funded home energy upgrades, launching next year. It will support eligible households with a wide range of improvements at little or no cost.

The plan includes £15bn worth of funding with a goal of upgrading 5 million homes by 2030. It is primarily aimed at lower-income households and those in properties with a low EPC rating.

Measures expected to be covered include insulation, air source heat pumps, heating upgrades, solar PV, and more. Retrofit Group will be ready to deliver under the scheme from launch. Register your interest below and we'll be in touch as soon as details are confirmed.
